  • Handicap notification

CONGU® Handicap is a handicap allotted and adjusted by the Home Club of a Member in accordance with the requirements of the UHS. New rules introduced in March specified 3 types of handicap classification. The classification of Competition handicap for Carton Home members will be the Competition Handicap designated by the letter "C" . Any Carton Home player will have the "C" status when a carton home player has recorded 3 qualifying home games in the previous 12 months. Any Carton Home Golfer must have the "C" status to be able to play in away open or semi open qualifying singles competitions in Ireland.

So, to ensure you can attain the "C" status Competition handicap please ensure you return 3 qualifying scores at Carton in the 12 months up to beign eligible to play in away singles qualifying competitions. The computer at the away venue will not allow your entry if you are not Competition handicap "C" status.

While most home members of Carton will have played 3 qualifying singles competitions at Carton in the last 12 months and will be "C" status, the new members in 2016 will have to play 3 qualifying singles at carton before being assigned a Competition handicap "C" status. These new members need to get busy and play in qualifying competitions ASAP. Do not be complacent, if you are unsure log into golfnet and confirm your "C" status.

Imagine arriving at an Away venue for an open singles and being refused entry to the competition, just because you failed to play 3 qualifying games at Carton in the 12 months up to the away game.

  • Carton Members who are members of other clubs are

Carton Members who are members of other clubs are reminded that they must nominate only one club as “Home” for handicapping purposes and they must inform the clubs of any other golf club memberships. Failure to do this will result in an incorrect record of play and consequently will be in breach of the rules of Golf. This is your responsibility, so please do not leave yourself open to any breach of the rules.

Away scores: When playing away you are required to notify your home club of any score equal to or better than SSS and if you are placed 1st 2nd or 3rd in any team event. If your away score is entered into a computer at the club you are playing using your home club number this is deemed as returned. Non computer Away scores returns can be recorded on the handicap notice sheet on the handicap notice board upstairs. Again, this is your responsibility and if you are playing off a handicap which is higher than your returns and your ability you are taking an unfair advantage over your fellow Carton Members and the ethos of golf.

If you feel your ability does not match your handicap please contact mensclub@cartonhousemembers.com , we can make a case to the GUI to get any handicap adjusted (evidence based). If any member wishes to make an observation on handicaps or on any players handicap and their ability please contact any of the committee or drop a note into the competition box.

    Home Club

If you are a member of more than one club you must nominate one as your home club for handicapping purposes. Failure to do this will result in variances in handicaps between each club and will result in disqualification if found to be playing off a lower handicap that what would be calculated if all scores were returned to your home club. It is the responsibility of the golfer to ensure they are playing off the lowest handicap that reflects their level of play.

There will be a review of Members handicaps in March to ensure new members play and members winter play evidence is reviewed.

Remember: You must play 3 qualifying competitions at your home golf club in the 12 months up to qualifying to play in an away competition.
